Mike is a passionate climber, routesetter and hold collector; his small home wall has over 1400 holds on it. He has a deep appreciation for quality climbing holds, and loves to chat about shapes, textures and how climbers interact with holds in a climbing gym. He spends hours training and climbing in gyms all over the country and different parts of the world, and loves seeing shapes from brands he's never seen before.
Previously, Mike was the Routesetting Director for The Front Climbing Gyms in Salt Lake City from 2010-2019 and National Routesetting Director for USA Climbing from 2020-2025. Mike also started Level Climbing, the first high-level volume brand in the United States. His experience as a routesetter and brand owner gives him extensive knowledge of holds, flooring, adjustable walls and the indoor climbing gym industry.
Mike is a USA Climbing National Head Routesetter and IFSC Routesetter who has set more than 20 National Championships and many Boulder and Lead World Cups. Mike is still very active as a clinic instructor and routesetter with USA Climbing, and recently was nominated as one of only two setters from the US to set Lead at the Olympics in Los Angeles in 2028.
